{"id":516,"date":"2023-04-17T15:08:13","date_gmt":"2023-04-17T15:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scottishstandard.flagshiphost.co.uk\/?p=516"},"modified":"2023-04-17T15:08:13","modified_gmt":"2023-04-17T15:08:13","slug":"rangers-assistant-handed-six-match-ban-for-headbutting-celtic-women-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottishstandard.flagshiphost.co.uk\/?p=516","title":{"rendered":"Rangers assistant handed six-match ban for headbutting Celtic Women manager"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rangers assistant manager Craig McPherson has been handed a six-match ban by the Scottish Football Association for his headbutt on the Celtic manager, Fran Alonso, after last month\u2019s Scottish Women\u2019s Premier League match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McPherson was found guilty of breaching disciplinary rule 77 in the incident at Broadwood Stadium on 27 March, after the Hoops had scored a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw. He subsequently offered a \u201cfull and unreserved apology\u201d for his actions towards Alonso and said he would \u201caccept in full\u201d any punishment deemed appropriate, while also expressing gratitude that the Parkhead manager had accepted his apology. The incident was also the subject of police inquiries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McPherson\u2019s hearing was held on Thursday, and the outcome was recorded on the Scottish FA\u2019s website as: \u201cAdmitted. Six-match immediate suspension.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Disciplinary rule 77 states: \u201cA recognised football body, club, official, team official, other member of team staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall, at all times, act in the best interests of Association Football. Furthermore such person or body shall not act in any manner which is improper or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rangers men\u2019s manager, Michael Beale, described the incident as \u201cout of character\u201d for McPherson. The day after the incident a Police Scotland spokesperson said: \u201cWe have received a report regarding an incident at Broadwood Stadium on the evening of Monday, 27 March 2023.
